March marked the month in which we celebrated International Women’s Day 8 March 2023. Although women’s accomplishments should be celebrated every day, International Women’s Day reminds us to continue having conversations on gender equality. CDM is proud to encourage our woman taking the next step in their tech careers and carry on the dialogue about leadership, diversity, careers, self-assurance, empowerment, and well-being.
On March 17, CDM had the pleasure of conducting a hybrid event workshop with Kathryn Vosper. Technology executive Kathryn Vosper drives strategic growth in company development, sales, and customer success. With over 17 years of experience in the IT industry, Kathryn delivered her insights into being a woman in tech. This workshop allowed all the attendees an insight into the statistics of how women in tech are moving forward, achieving their goals and sharing their experiences in the industry.
Here are the following takeaways from our workshop:
- Be comfortable with receiving the word “no” and also saying the word “no”.
- Have self-confidence and self-love – this will lead to growth.
- Do not buy into victimisation – we are all human and deserve things as much as another. With a victim mentality, negative thoughts tend to manifest. Therefore, try to rise above that mentality, instead of following it so that you can reach your full potential.
- Communicating and asking questions – do not be afraid to question things, appreciate criticism, and address any concerns, as this will also help you grow.
- Do not limit yourself – you are your own competition.
- Never say “No” to a good opportunity.
- Find professional mentors – both male and female.
- You do not have to always say sorry – women often have the prepossession to apologise.
- Own your mistakes and learn from them.
- In an ideal environment, there shouldn’t be any competition between genders. Instead, there should be focus on teamwork and bringing the strengths of all genders together.
- Update your CV and LinkedIn profile regularly not only so you do not forget details in the future, but also to remind yourself of achievements, newly learned skills and awesomeness.
- Unfortunately, not every workplace is diverse and inclusive – inspire change in these environments or go where you are celebrated.
- Join groups to network with like-minded people.
