Delivering seamless connectivity in large public venues requires robust, scalable, and secure wireless infrastructure. To support the growing expectations of fans, media, and event partners, Stadiums Queensland partnered with CDM and HPE Aruba to implement a high-density Wi-Fi solution designed to support major international events while ensuring reliable connectivity for all stadium stakeholders.
Background
Suncorp Stadium is Brisbane’s premier 52,500-seat venue and a major destination for international sporting and entertainment events. The stadium’s owner and operator, Stadiums Queensland, required a modern wireless infrastructure capable of supporting global events with strict connectivity standards. Building on a successful deployment at North Queensland Stadium, CDM partnered with HPE Aruba to design a scalable wireless platform that could serve as the blueprint for stadium connectivity across Queensland.
Challenge
Stadiums Queensland needed high-density public Wi-Fi capable of supporting tens of thousands of spectators while ensuring reliable connectivity for merchants, corporate partners, broadcasters, and operational teams. The network had to meet international event standards and integrate within an existing stadium structure where seating layouts and concrete infrastructure limited deployment options. Additionally, the organisation sought a centralised management platform to simplify operations and reduce ongoing support costs across multiple venues.
Solution
CDM deployed more than 1,200 Aruba access points across indoor and outdoor areas using a combination of under-seat small-cell access points arranged in a honeycomb pattern and overhead coverage. Centralised management was delivered using Aruba AirWave, while secure access control and segmentation were implemented through Aruba ClearPass.
Outcome
The solution supports up to 40,000 concurrent devices while maintaining reliable connectivity for operations and media, delivering high-quality digital experiences for fans and enabling Queensland to host world-class international events.
