BACKGROUND
Whiddon is an award-winning non-profit aged care provider. It serves over 2,300 customers and operates over 30 community care facilities.
The ICT network is the foundation for serving Whiddon’s clients. The network supports everything from clinical documentation systems to resident management tools and service scheduling applications. However, the existing network was beginning to show its age.
Whiddon sought a systems upgrade and CDM was chosen as the most effective systems integrator.
CHALLENGE
The size of the organisation and high-level security requirements were two major challenges in this digital transformation project. Any proposed solution needed to optimise agility, performance, resilience, security and ease of use.
The end-to-end migration also required careful and sensitive management to ensure that downtime was minimised.
SOLUTION
CDM recommended a combined solution featuring Fortinet and Nutanix Enterprise Cloud.
CDM consolidated Whiddon’s previous network environment onto Nutanix running in two on-premise environments. Nutanix Enterprise Cloud offers a flexible, highly manageable, virtualised environment and is built for performance, availability, and cost-efficiency.
The Fortinet FortiGate Next Generation Firewall was implemented to protect sensitive patient information.
CDM project managed Whiddon’s end-to-end migration to the new solution. Consolidating its operations onto a single hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) provides the visibility and business agility the organisation needs to support new services and evolving requirements. Simple and intuitive to use and manage, the hyperconverged infrastructure solution enables Whiddon’s IT team to work more efficiently to meet escalating demands.
A Whiddon representative said, “since the system upgrade, our exchange servers have been running for well over 400 days without requiring a reboot.”
