Case Studies
BACKGROUND
PanAust is a copper and gold producer based in Laos, with development projects in Papua New Guinea and Chile. Through strategic acquisitions, the company rapidly evolved into an international enterprise. However, this growth outpaced its ICT security capabilities, prompting the need for a more sophisticated, global security strategy. To strengthen its posture and support future operations, PanAust engaged CDM to conduct an independent, comprehensive ICT security assessment.
CHALLENGE
With operations now spanning multiple continents, PanAust needed to prepare its ICT environment for transition to a Managed Services Provider (MSP). The organisation faced significant challenges, including outdated infrastructure, incomplete policies, the absence of critical systems like an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), and a lack of documentation. Its existing network architecture also lacked the flexibility to support enterprise-grade security controls across a global footprint.
SOLUTION
CDM undertook a detailed, organisation-wide ICT security assessment using a defence-in-depth methodology. This included analysis of infrastructure, hardware, configurations, system logs, and policies. CDM identified critical risks and provided a clear, actionable remediation plan aligned with PanAust’s business goals. A consistent, scalable security architecture was developed to standardise protection across all locations, enabling the company to minimise threats, reduce operational risk, and control long-term MSP costs.
As part of the engagement, CDM helped PanAust significantly improve its security posture and readiness for MSP transition. The strategy maximised value from existing investments, safeguarded intellectual property, and positioned PanAust with a sustainable, enterprise-grade security framework to support continued international growth.
