Background
Following a review of ICT governance across the Queensland Government, the Service Delivery and Performance Commission identified opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs by consolidating data centres, networks, and infrastructure services. CITEC was appointed to lead this transformation and selected CDM to design, build, deploy, and commission the foundation network that would support shared ICT services across Queensland Government departments and agencies.
The solution spanned two strategic Queensland data centres and included a core data network, metropolitan area network (MAN), internet gateway, wide area network (WAN) gateway, and a dedicated quality assurance test environment.
Challenge
The Queensland Government required a highly resilient, secure, and scalable network capable of supporting multiple agencies while ensuring continuous service availability. The project demanded a carrier-grade solution with no single points of failure, simplified management, and the flexibility to accommodate future growth. It also needed to reduce infrastructure duplication, improve operational efficiency, and provide a secure platform for shared government services.
Solution
CDM designed and delivered a turnkey, carrier-grade network foundation using industry-leading F5 technology to provide a secure private cloud platform. The solution was architected for 99.999% availability, scalability, and simplified management, enabling secure application delivery and supporting future capacity requirements.
The consolidated infrastructure improved collaboration across government departments, reduced operational complexity, and enhanced service continuity through a resilient, high-performance architecture. By centralising infrastructure and management, the Queensland Government achieved significant efficiencies, reduced environmental impact through lower power consumption and fewer network devices, and established a flexible platform for ongoing digital transformation.
Today, CDM continues to support CITEC through ongoing maintenance, network expansion, and agency transition services, ensuring the platform continues to evolve alongside the Queensland Government’s changing needs.
