Case Studies
BACKGROUND
To help the Queensland Government deliver on its multi-million dollar investment in digital education, the ‘Smart Classrooms’ strategy, CDM worked in four main ICT projects and continues to provide on-going assistance and support.
PROBLEM
Since 2005, Education Queensland has been rolling out the Queensland Government’s Smart Classrooms strategy to give all its 1300 schools and its education administrators the best that the information superhighway has to offer – wherever they are.
The complex ICT needs of the Smart Classrooms strategy required the design and implementation of a comprehensive infrastructure plan known as the Enterprise Platform. This platform formed the foundation to support promises such as a one-to-one ratio of computers for all school students and laptops for all permanent teachers.
The Enterprise Platform also supported the OneSchool initiative within the strategy, which included intuitive software to help Education Queensland to better manage the resources, learning and performance of its schools.
SOLUTION
CDM delivered a comprehensive Enterprise Platform solution that met the requirements of the Smart Classrooms strategy, guaranteeing support for the tens of thousands of new computers to be deployed on the network.
CDM installed thousands of kilometres of fibre optic and UTP cabling across Queensland to EQSITC standards. CDM also rectified defective existing cabling in 700 schools at a rate of 17 schools per week – well ahead of schedule. CDM continue to provide ongoing customer support through maintenance and a Help desk.
Education Queensland has also simplified access to all data sharing and reporting functions via a website maintained by CDM.
CDM’s Enterprise Platform solution was delivered state-wide on a tight schedule, on budget and to strict specifications. It provided Education Queensland with a strong and stable communications backbone for its schools and Departmental sites warranted for 25 years.
